Matching Funding Support Scheme

The School may provide up to $600 to research postgraduate students as matching funding for other University of Melbourne schemes which provide support for conference attendance, overseas research/ study etc.
The number of matching funding support applications per student is capped as follows:
- PhD students - A maximum of 2 applications during their candidature
- MA (research) students) - A maximum of 1 application during their candidature*
*Students who convert from a Masters (research) to a PhD may submit a maximum of 2 applications during their total candidature
You must submit your matching funding application - together with your application for the "matched" funding scheme (eg, TRIPS, etc) - at least 1 week prior to the application closing date for the "matched" scheme.
Students may request funding from this scheme and also the Matching funding scheme in a single application.
Conference Attendance Support Scheme

The School may provide research postgraduates with up to $200 to attend a national or international conference, and up to $500 to present a paper at a national or international conference. The total may include accommodation costs up to $50 per day for up to 10 days for overseas travel, and up to $40 per day for up to 5 days for travel in Australia.
The number of applications for this scheme per student is capped as follows:
- PhD students - A maximum of 2 applications during candidature
(a second application will only be approved if the student is presenting a paper) - Masters (research) students - A maximum of 1 application during candidature*
*Students who convert from a Masters (research) to a PhD may submit a maximum of 2 applications during their total candidature
Students may request funding from this scheme and also the Matching funding scheme in a single application.
School General Research Support Scheme
The School of Languages and Linguistics may provide research postgraduates with up to $250 towards specific expenses associated with research projects/theses (e.g. postage costs to administer questionnaires, etc) The number of applications for this support scheme is capped as follows:
- PhD students - A maximum of 2 applications during candidature.
- Masters (research) students: A maximum of 1 application during candidature*
*Students who convert from a Master (research) to a PhD may submit a maximum of 2 applications during their total period of candidature.
