19-20 July 2008
The University of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Interested in travel writing? A career that takes you beyond the everyday to far-flung destinations and exciting experiences? Is it really as glamourous as it sounds? Or is there more to this genre than the gloss and glitz might suggest?

These questions and many others will be the subject of discussion at the inaugural Melbourne Festival of Travel Writing. As the first literary event dedicated to travel writing in the country, it offers a wide variety of approaches to writing about travel, ranging from contemporary trends in editing and publishing to food and travel blogs, from literary travels and travellers to the ethics and responsibilities of writers in promoting sustainable tourism.

The Inaugural Melbourne Festival of Travel Writing follows on from the tenth anniversary conference on travel writing and tourism studies Borders and Crossings from 15-18 July 2008. Both events are open to the public. Please follow the links on this page for more information and registration details.

Travel writing workshops are also available. Please visit the registration page for bookings.
