Australian Academy of the Humanities Triebel Lecture

Monday 16 February 2009 - 6.30pm Copland Theatre

Professor Peter Høj
Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of South Australia

Can we afford to be without multilingualism? A scientist’s lay perspective

The Louis Triebel Lecture, inaugurated in 1986, is presented approximately every three years. It is given in honour of Professor L. A. Triebel (1890-1985), a Foundation Fellow, and is funded through a gift bequested to the Academy on his death.

With the exception of the inaugural lecture, these lectures are generally given in the area of modern languages (that is, European languages other than English), a discipline which reflects the expertise of Professor Triebel, who held the Chair in Modern Languages at the University of Tasmania.
